Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of PDF Technologies, Inc. API services and related infrastructure. This policy supplements our Terms of Service and applies to all users, including free and paid plan holders. By using our services, you agree to comply with this policy.

2. Permitted Use

Our PDF processing APIs are designed for lawful business and personal use. Permitted activities include:

  • Converting documents between supported formats (HTML to PDF, PDF to text, etc.)
  • Extracting text, images, and metadata from documents you own or have authorization to process
  • Merging, splitting, and watermarking PDF documents
  • Integrating our APIs into your applications and workflows
  • Processing documents on behalf of your end users with their consent
  • Automated document processing pipelines within your plan limits

3. Prohibited Content

You may not use our services to process, generate, or distribute:

  • Content that violates any applicable law, regulation, or third-party rights
  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any content exploiting minors
  • Content that promotes violence, terrorism, or hate speech
  • Fraudulent documents, counterfeit identification, or forged records
  • Malware, viruses, or other harmful code embedded in documents
  • Phishing materials or documents designed to deceive recipients
  • Content that infringes copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights
  • Unsolicited bulk communications (spam) generated through our APIs

4. Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Attempting to bypass, circumvent, or exceed API rate limits or plan quotas
  • Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling our services or APIs
  • Sharing API keys or account credentials with unauthorized parties
  • Using our services to build a competing product or service
  • Scraping, crawling, or automated harvesting of our website or documentation beyond normal use
  • Interfering with the integrity or performance of our services or infrastructure
  • Attempting to gain unauthorized access to our systems, networks, or other users' accounts
  • Reselling API access or credits without written authorization
  • Using automated tools to create multiple free-tier accounts

5. Security Requirements

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your integration:

  • Keep API keys confidential and never expose them in client-side code or public repositories
  • Rotate API keys immediately if you suspect unauthorized access
  • Use HTTPS for all API communications
  • Implement appropriate access controls in your applications
  • Report security vulnerabilities to security@pdf-technologies.com

6. Rate Limits and Fair Use

To ensure service quality for all users:

  • API requests are subject to rate limits based on your plan tier
  • Burst traffic beyond reasonable levels may be throttled
  • We reserve the right to limit usage that degrades service for other users
  • If you anticipate high-volume usage, contact us about Enterprise plans
  • Unused credits do not roll over between billing periods (except add-on packs)

7. Data Processing Obligations

When processing documents through our APIs:

  • You must have legal authority to process any documents you submit
  • You are responsible for obtaining necessary consents from data subjects
  • Do not submit documents containing sensitive personal data unless your plan supports it
  • Comply with all applicable data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • Understand that documents are temporarily processed and automatically deleted within 60 seconds

8. Monitoring and Enforcement

We may monitor usage patterns to enforce this policy. If we determine a violation has occurred, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Issue a warning and request immediate corrective action
  • Temporarily suspend API access pending investigation
  • Permanently terminate your account
  • Report illegal activity to appropriate law enforcement authorities
  • Pursue legal remedies for damages caused by violations

We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before taking action, except where immediate action is necessary to protect our services or other users.

9. Reporting Violations

If you become aware of any violation of this policy, please report it to abuse@pdf-technologies.com. We investigate all reports and take appropriate action. Reports can be submitted anonymously.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and posted on our website at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of our services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
